You can test your scanners to find out the average time it takes to detect each character. You can also test different configurations for the "time before scan" and "min length" settings while scanning and use the results to adjust your scanning preferences for your account.
The Scanner Settings Simulator only applies to scanning on the web with a barcode scanner.
To access the Scanner Setting Simulator, click on your name in the right-hand corner of the screen, then click the drop-down arrow and navigate to Options. Select the button Test Scan Settings.
The Barcode Test Scan Settings box will appear. You can search for an asset you want to scan by its asset tag or serial number.
After choosing Lookup Asset Tag, the next window will show different properties that can be adjusted for the scanner settings of that asset.
1. Minimum Length: This is the minimum number of characters required for input to be considered scanning.
2. Time Before Scan Test: This is the waiting duration (in milliseconds) after the keypress event to check if scanning is finished.
3. Average Time by Character: This refers to the average time (in milliseconds) between two characters. It helps to distinguish between keyboard typing and scanning.
You can test the scanner by scanning the barcode at this page's bottom. The system will update the fields at the bottom, providing the Average Time by Character and Running Average Time by Character (Successful Scans) times.
"If the scan fails, an error message will be displayed in red."
If needed, you can modify the settings, scan again, and see if the adjusted settings work better for the scanner.
If you select Done, the selected settings will show in the string, and a reminder message in orange will come up saying that they have to remember to save the settings.
