When enabled, the OU write-back option in the Google Devices integration allows iiQ to update a device’s OrgUnit path(s) in Google Admin Console based on any criteria supported via iiQ filtering conditions (e.g. Role, Grade, Location, Model, etc.). This setting supports multi-conditional mappings per OrgUnit path, and supports conditions beyond device location.
At the bottom of the page, you will see the write-back options section. You will want to enable the Write orgUnitPath to Google option.
Please note that this will only work if the OU(s) already exist in Google and the mapping has been set between iiQ conditions and a valid OrgUnit path.
Important Note: It is highly recommended that you perform regular backups of your Chrome Cloud device data. Changes made by write-back options cannot be reverted through Incident IQ. If you have questions about these options, please consult with iiQ Customer Service before enabling them.
When enabled, you can start adding your filters and start mapping your OU write-back option(s) per OrgUnit path. First, select New Mapping and then Add Filter.
Additional filters can be applied by clicking the +Add Filter button from the lower left-hand corner of the widget. Filters can be removed by hovering over the filter and clicking the “x” that appears in the top-right of the filter.
After adding the filters for your mappings and select Save Filters. There is no limit to the number of filters that can be added per mapping.
Next, enter the OrgUnit path indicating where those devices need to be moved during the nightly sync based on any recent changes in iiQ since the last sync.
If your mappings are following a pattern, you can duplicate the filter conditions and the OrgUnit path by selecting the Duplicate icon to the left of the filters. Then, make any necessary changes to the duplicated version.
Please note that the duplicate icon will only appear once you have saved the original mapping.
If there is an error within a mapping structure, you will see a Show Errors button appear near the top right of your mapping list and an information icon to the right of the mapping. Select the Show Errors button to display only the OrgUnit paths that are mapped incorrectly and troubleshoot as necessary. This quickly flags which OrgUnit mappings may need to either be adjusted or removed.
Now that your OU mappings are set up, you may have some devices in your fleet that you would like to exclude from this write-back functionality. In such cases, you can apply filters to prevent these devices from writing back OU data to Google by clicking on the following highlighted option underneath the write-back checkbox.
Once filters are enabled, you will need to click on the Add Filter button.
At this point, you can select the filters needed to include/exclude the desired devices during write-back syncs. In the example below, all devices in the /Kiosks OU will be excluded from the OU write-back, allowing all other devices to update their OU as needed.
