Resource Group
Resource Group is a concept unique to iiQ Resources. A resource group includes all assets a specific department oversees (Curriculum and Special Education teams will have separate resource groups). iiQ Resources can support an unlimited number of resource groups.
A defined Resource Group is a prerequisite for creating an Asset Type.
Please ensure that at least one Resource Group is created so that Resources can be visible in the left nav.
Example:
Resource group: Curriculum
Parent model category: Instructional Equipment
Child model category: Science Equipment
Asset type: Microscope (inventory type - serialized)
Manufacturer: AmScope
Model: AmScope B400 Series Biological Binocular Compound Microscope 40X-1000X Magnification with LED Light
Asset name: AmScope B400 Series Biological Binocular Compound Microscope 40X-1000X Magnification with LED Light
Create Resource Group
To create a Resource Group, navigate to Resource Groups under Admin and select Add Resource Group in the top right corner.
The name is the only required field to create a Resource Group. If you wish to update the Name, Icon, and Image, click Save.
After saving, the Resource Group shows on the left-hand nav under “Resources.” Now that you’ve created your Resource Group, you can create the Asset Type related to it.
Asset Type
An asset type describes the resource and is used for reporting and filtering purposes. Examples of asset types include calculators, workbooks, textbooks, teacher editions, novels, science kits, etc.
Example:
Resource group: Curriculum
Parent model category: Instructional Equipment
Child model category: Science Equipment
Asset type: Microscope (inventory type - serialized)
Manufacturer: AmScope
Model: AmScope B400 Series Biological Binocular Compound Microscope 40X-1000X Magnification with LED Light
Asset name: AmScope B400 Series Biological Binocular Compound Microscope 40X-1000X Magnification with LED Light
Create Asset Type
To create a new Asset Type, navigate to Asset Types in the left Navigation and click Add Asset Type.
Below is a detailed breakdown of each specific field that can be located on the Asset Type Details page.
Field Name | Required/Optional | Description |
Name | Required | When expanded, the Name will display beneath the Resource Group in the left navigation. This field will group the individual assets for filtering and reporting purposes.
|
Resource Group | Required | Available options in the drop-down list are populated with the available Resource Groups that have previously been created. |
Inventory Type | Required | Three different Inventory Types are available:
|
Source of default due date | Optional | The due date is when the asset must be checked back in before it is considered late. Two options for the Source of the default due date
Due dates can only be set for serialized and generic asset types.
|
Default loan period | Optional | The field will display if “# of days” is selected as the source of the default due date.
This field will calculate the due date based on the day the asset is checked out plus the number of days entered in the Default loan period field. |
Default due date | Optional | The field will display if “Specific Date” is selected as the source of the default due date. A date picker is available for you to choose a specific date. Please note, that this field will need to be updated later if it is past the due date. |
Source of Asset Name | Required | There are two sources for Asset Names.
The selection of this field will determine if additional fields are displayed. Once an Asset Type is created and saved, the “Source of Asset Name” field becomes read-only and cannot be edited. |
Default Category | Required | The field will display if the Source of the Asset Name is “Asset Name.” The categories in the drop-down list are pulled from the categories set up in the Model Categories section in the left navigation under Admin.
This is the category that will be displayed when creating a Ticket. If “Model Catalog” is selected as the source of the asset name, when creating an Asset, the category associated with the Model Category will be defaulted. |
Default Image | Optional | The field will display if the source of the Asset Name is “Asset Name.” |
Scope | Required | This field is defaulted to Site and can not be updated. This indicates that the scope of the Asset Type is sitewide. |
Icon | Required | There are several icons available for you to select from. This icon shows on the Asset Types page. |
Sort Order | Required | The sort order defaults to 100. |

Available Extensions
The ISBN Extension is available for iiQ Resources. This extension is located on the Asset Type Details page.
When this field is toggled On for an Asset Type, the ISBN fields will be available when creating an asset. When users enter the 10 or 13-digit ISBN number, this will query the ISBN database and automatically populate the remaining information with the data from the ISBN DB.
For each ISBN, the data from the ISBNDB is retrieved once. This data is then stored in Incident IQ’s local database. All subsequent retrievals of the exact ISBN data will use Incident IQ’s local database. At this point, the local DB never expires, so if there is an update to the ISBN database, then an Incident IQ resource will need to expire the local data manually.
