iiQ Events - Managing Event Types

Event Type is a way to group and categorizes events for easier search and filtering in iiQ. To view the list of Event Types, navigate to Events > Event Types. There are default event types available. But you can create Custom Event Types as needed. Event type can be used as a filter for rules.

Event Type is a required field when creating or requesting an event.

Create a Custom Event Type

To create a new event type, click Add Event Type in the top right corner. First, name the event type, pick an icon, and click Save. Scope indicates that the event type will be applied sitewide.

Next you can change the visibility based on roles for each Event Type.

This helps with making certain event types not visible to requesters. Keeping the requester list of event types smaller.

When a new event is being created, a "hidden/disabled" Event Type will not appear in the list of types to choose from (based on User Role).

  • For existing Events, when the visibility of an Event Type is changed, visibility of the "hidden/disabled" Event Type on the Event and everywhere Event Details are displayed is maintained.

  • If an existing Recurring event is extended to a date further in the future, and the event type has been "hidden/disabled". It will continue to show for this event.

In the Event Types Grid, the visibility of each type is indicated in the “Visibility“ column.

There is a name validation check when saving a new event type to prevent duplicates. If a duplicate exists when attempting to save, the following error message will be displayed, and the user will be prevented from saving.

A validation will run to identify if the Event Type is associated with any Events. The system will not allow the Event Type to be deleted if there are any associations.

Once the system confirms no associations, a message will be displayed indicating that it is safe to delete the event type.

If the system identifies associations, the following message will be displayed, and the user will not be able to delete the Event Type. The message identifies the number of events associated with the Event Type. To be able to delete the Event Type, the user will need to remove that specific event type from all Events.
